Porinuće is on display in Projektraum Kunstquartier Bethanien Gallery August 25th – 10th of Spetember.

The Shipyard 3. Maj (named after the liberation day of Rijeka, Croatia, where it is located) was destroyed by German occupiers in 1945. After Socialist Yugoslavia’s founding and the shipyard’s revival, it has for decades to follow represented a staple of the country’s maritime industry. Following the break up of Yugoslavia, the opening up to late capitalism and rampant privatization led to the deterioration of industries across the region, including shipbuilding.
Ugrin’s poignant photographic series depicts the launch of the Siam Ashanti ship in 2018, one of the rare ship launches communal events shared by locals, officials, and corporate representatives alike—that still take place there.
